Purposes

The Reference and Instruction Librarian provides effective instruction and reference services to library patrons.  This is a part-time, non-benefited position approved for 28 hours per week. 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • MLS or MLIS from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited institution
  • Minimum of one year of experience in information literacy instruction
  • Familiarity with trends in academic libraries
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to effectively teach technical concepts to groups of all sizes
  • Ability to independently identify, diagnose, and resolve complex issues

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Assist in supervising activities at the circulation desk to provide knowledgeable and friendly customer service.
  2. Teach and participate in instruction programs using traditional classroom methods and new educational technologies to integrate information literacy into all academic programs.
  3. Provide traditional and electronic reference services; develop and maintain web-based tutorials; and create, curate, and maintain print and electronic subject guides to ensure responsive and accurate research help for all patrons.

Worthiness Qualification

Must be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and currently temple worthy.
